In recent years, Beastie Boys fans
have found solace in listening to their favorite band's
various side projects. As a member of the Mike
D's side project the Latch
Brothers, Wag has suddenly appeared on the radar of
many Beastie Boys fans. Impressed with the Latch Brothers
remixes and video game soundtrack music, more than one curious
fan on the BeastieBoys.com message board raised the question:
Who is Wag?
Wag is best known for playing bass
guitar in the band Mary's Danish. While Wag was a part of
the Mary's Danish, the band developed a strong fan base
and it seemed like they were on the verge of widescale stardom.
For one reason or another, Mary's Danish never found huge
commercial success nor did they obtain heavy MTV airplay.
It was through a link on the Mary's
Danish website, that it was revealed that the Beastie Boys
1992 Hollywood Palladium concert benefit raised $70,000
for Wag's expensive hip operation. Also on that concert
bill were the Red Hot Chili Peppers and comedian Roseanne
Barr.
As a friend to Mike D, it is no surprise
that Wag has popped up now and again on Grand Royal related
projects like the Latch Brothers. Another example is that
back when DFL was still trying to figure out a permanent
line up, Wag would play with them on occasion. It will be
fun to see and speculate on what releases Wag will pop up
on next.
