Hillary Snyder aka DJ Unknown
Hillary Snyder has worked with the
Beastie Boys as creative director on the following three
music videos: "Alive", "Intergalactic",
and "Body Movin'". "Alive" was filmed
on location in various parts of New York City, NY. However,
"Body Movin'" and "Intergalactic" both
required a great deal of set construction.
In order to recreate the look of
the Tokyo, Japan street scenes, a huge model complete with
buildings and automobiles had to be be built. This model
became the arena for the show down between the Robot and
the Octopus Monster. Once the filming was completed, the
entire set was discarded. The small motorized car (as seen
in the video) was the only piece that was kept.
For "Body Movin'," Hillary
and the rest of the production staff had the task of recreating
the look and feel of the movie Diabolik. When compared
to previous Beastie Boys music videos, both "Intergalactic"
and "Body Movin" look more expensive and polished.
With the release of the Beastie Boys Video Anthology
DVD, the attention to detail as well as the creative
genius of Hillary Snyder really shined through.
When not making music videos with
bands like the Beastie Boys and Cibo Matto, Hillary spins
in New York City under the stage name "DJ Unknown."
In the past, he has performed at gallery openings and places
around town such as the "Warehouse" (between Grand
Concourse & Walton Avenues) in the Bronx.
Those living in the New York metropolitan
area should be on the lookout for upcoming DJ Unknown shows.
