I remember in 1987, the Beastie Boys were performing and I didn't know who the Beastie Boys were. It was another crowded, crazy show, I was jammed up at the front of the stage, holding cue cards for whoever introduced them. I guess back in those days MTV couldn't afford a TelePrompter. So they intro'd the Beastie Boys and out they came, shaking up their beer, squirting beer on people. People started stage-diving and moshing. Someone stole one of the Beasties' microphones and then fistfights started breaking out and somehow I got in the middle of this brawl. One of the big security guards put me in a head lock and started pummeling me. I hold up my badge, let him know I'm like, "I'm on your side".
Looking back on it, I guess it was pretty funny, but at the time, I didn't want to be there getting smashed around.
