Reviews:
New York Punk Fanzine Flesh and Bones (Issue #1):
The Beastie Boys are such a good band! They play really fun music; call it hardcore if you want. It's just good music. Some songs are socially relevant and some are silly personal stories. Where other hardcore bands get caught up in the heaviness of being socially conscious and following the proper fashions, the Beastie Boys just have fun being themselves and that's what makes them a great band. Tonight they opened with "Beastie Go!" [the song is actually entitled "Beastie Boys" from the Polly Wog Stew EP]. As they continued, I noticed about a dozen cute girls dancing up front as the boot boys looked on in dismay at this invasion of their battlefield. "Beastie Revolution" is next. Michael does this retarded dance around the stage. "Riot Fight" and that's it. . .The Influence did some. . .Saccharine Trust had some equipment trouble. They didn't go over too well, but what can you expect when the Bad Brains are playing next. . .And the Bad Brains finally play. This was the last night of live music at Max's and I couldn't think of a better band to be the last to play. Goodbye to Max's Kansas City.
